All ensembles have a hands-on approach, focusing on the various aspects of rhythm section and frontline playing: logistics of listening, clarifying instrument roles, the decision-making process, developing performance awareness, concentration and instrument control. Material will be presented to the students relevant to the theme of the ensemble, and will coincide with an in-depth study of that particular area.

Improvisation and Theory Class with Marc Mommaas
This class has a hands on approach focusing on strenghtening your improvisation vocabulary and broadening your understanding of the basic harmonic, melodic, and rhythmic elements. |
Polyrhythm and Mixed Meter Class with Marc Mommaas
In this class you will work through a variety of rhythmic principles inspired by today's Jazz compositions and influenced by rhythmic concepts found in South and North Indian as well as in African music. We will work on accent points, groupings, mixed meter principles, and polyrhythm. The main focus is to strengthen inner time expanding your rhythmic language within a harmonic context. You will be presented with a comprehensive method and a variety of challenging compositions, you will write your own compositions using the rhythmic principles presented and special guests will be invited to join the workshop to share their journey through this beautiful and extensive language. BEBOP Workshop with Andrea Veneziani
Any musician who wants to understand and play jazz today has to know the language of Bebop; the style, born in the '40s, is the root of the modern jazz language. The goal of the course is to explain the nature of this music through the analysis of the compositions of all the major musicians of that era. This class will allow you to play as much as possible while touching on the specific concepts of Bebop. |
Jazz Standards Workshop with Maryann McSweeney
The Jazz Standards workshopwill be a great place for musicians to play in an ensemble, learn the language of jazz, and improvise on tunes. We will focus on tunes by Thelonius Monk and Charlie Parker. |
BLUES Workshop with Tim Price
Time to play the BLUES.......with Tim Price When it comes to jazz improvisation, there are some techniques you need to know, and the classic 12-bar blues is one of them. Tim Price takes the blues into applied practice with his orignal teaching materials which include exercises, chord progressions, tunes, and more. From Bebop to Hard-Bop with Mark Sherman
Play in a jazz band under the direction of Mark Sherman, winner of "Rising Star Vibes" Downbeat Magazine Critics Poll 2007-2010. He will take you on a musical journey spanning three decades from Bebop to HardBop. You will play, among other things, the music of Charlie Parker, Benny Goldson, Art Blakey and more. Mark is an experienced instructor who has taught masterclasses all around the world. His unique approach combines learning tunes with practical advices on how to master chord changes, melodic development for your improvisation and much more.This is the perfect class for students who are ready to play and get serious.

This workshop is geared towards intermediate and advanced musicians looking to explore the musical compositions of the most influential musicians of the Free Jazz era such as Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, Charles Mingus, Albert Ayler, John Coltrane, Archie Shepp, and Sun Ra. The style of Free Jazz, born in the United States in the 60s, is now diffused worldwide in various forms, and it constitutes an extremely useful and formative musical experience for any musician who wants to play improvised music. Group Guitar Lessons with Chris Mariner

The group guitar workshop is perfect for beginner and intermediate players who would like to take their skills to the next level. This is a bi-weekly workshop for intermediate to advanced singers who would like to improve their vocal skills with a true professional. Ben Ratliff of the New York Times calls Victor “artistically complete.” Fay Victor hypnotizes audiences, whether she sings a blues, sculpts a free piece, reinvents a Herbie Nichols tune through her own lyrics, or effortlessly scats over the harmonies of a jazz standard.
