About the Saxophone Intensive
Bring your horn to the New York Jazz Workshop this summer! We are thrilled to present this special one-day intensive for saxophonists. This program is open to students of any type of saxophone. Syllabus to be posted soon.

Dates: July 19th
All sessions will be held from 11am to 5pm at our main space around the corner of Times Square. More detailed outline and information on the schedule will follow.
-Instructors may ask for a recorded sample before admission
-At least 17 years of age
-Some of our intensives are better suited to intermediate and advanced musicians with a minimum of a few years on their instrument; other summer intensives, such as the beginner vocal and choir, are open to everyone. More details can be discussed during registration.
About the Faculty
Marc Mommaas- (NYC) Saxophonist/Composer/Educator

Cum Laude graduate Manhattan School of Music, William Borden Award recipient, international guest lecturer at MSM , NYU, William Paterson University, Rhythmic Music Conservatory/Denmark and the Conservatory of Amsterdam, co-director of the New York Jazz Workshop and the Hudson Jazzworks Program, faculty member of the New School and bandleader of his celebrated formation Global Motion and composer of innovative works featured on Global Motion, Balance, Landmarc, Irreversible momentum & Ballads and Standards. Mommaas is a Sunnyside Records artist.
Marc Mommaas comes from a creative background. He grew up with his mother performing and teaching opera and classical piano, and his father in the center of the Dutch art scene using oil on canvas as his art form. During his study in Amsterdam, NL he combined his musical development with a university education (Masters in Comm.Science/Business). After being awarded two Dutch grants (Stichting Podium Kunsten, Prins Bernard Fonds Anjer Fondsen) in 1997, he made the move to New York City. Once in New York, Marc received a full scholarship to attend the Manhattan School of Music where he completed his Masters in Jazz Performance. Upon graduating he was awarded the William H. Borden Award, given to only one student selected from the graduating class for outstanding achievement. Marc has toured the world with many formations including the Amina Figarova sextet, and with other formations lead by Tony Moreno, Tim Horner, Armen Donelian, Sebastian Noelle and many more. He played all the main stages, from the New Port Jazz Festival to Carnegy Hall. Besides his impressive career as a saxophonist and improviser he also made his mark as an educator. He co-founded the New York Jazz Workshop with Marco Chelo and Hudson Jazz Works with Armen Donelian, a faculty member of the New School, has given masterclasses on conservatoria across the globe, and is an in demand saxophone and composition teacher in NYC. Marc is currently working on a text book on “a rhythmic approach of improvisation and composition for linear instruments”, a recording project with Global Motion in collaboration with a string quartet and several project based arrangements. Next on the agenda is a guest appearance at Columbia University in November 2016 and a lecture at the Jazz Education Network Congress in new Orleans in January 2017. Read More

What to expect:
When you join us for one or more of our intensives, you can expect to become a member of our tightly knit community. There will be musicians from all over the world looking to learn, explore and make connections. You will be making connections that last a lifetime. A typical day will be as follows:
11:00am – 1:00pm: Morning Sessions
1:00pm – 2:00pm Lunch Break
2:00pm – 5:00pm: Afternoon Sessions
Student will normally organize small groups or go check out some concerts. See “Fun Evening Activities” in the General Information page for more details. There will be opportunities for every student to perform outside of the school, more details coming up soon.
The New York Jazz Workshop Summer Series is held in our space at Michiko Studios in midtown Manhattan, just a few blocks from Times Square.
