About the Faculty

Ari Hoenig- Shortly after moving to Brooklyn, Ari Hoenig found himself started playing extensively with a variety of groups, including Jean Michel Pilc Trio, Kenny Werner Trio, Chris Potter Underground, Kurt Rosenwinkel Group, Joshua Redman Elastic band, Jazz Mandolin Project and bands led by Wayne Krantz, Mike Stern, Richard Bona, Pat Martino, and Bojan Z.  He has also shared the stage with such artists as Herbie Hancock, Ivan Linz, Wynton Marsalis, Toots Thielemans, Dave Holland, Joe Lovano, and Gerry Mulligan, although he got kicked off the stage by security shortly thereafter. As an educator, Ari teaches privately and is on faculty at New York University and the New School for Social Research in New York.  He gives clinics and lectures at music schools and universities worldwide, and writes a regular educational column for Modern Drummer magazine. Tony Moreno- New-York-based drummer Tony Moreno is simply one of the most sought after musicians of his profession. He tours all around the world and has played with artists including Barry Harris Trio; Gene Shimosato (w/Matt Garrison and Ravi Coltrane);Dave Phillips and Freedance; Sal Nestico; Mal Waldron Trio; Fred Favarel (w/ Richie Beirach and Jean-Jaques Avanel); The Lounge Lizards; Jurgen Friedrich Trio; European Jazz Orchestra (Parma FrontiereJazz); and Marc Mommaas and Global Motion. Dan Weiss- Dan Weiss began playing the drums at the age of 6. He received his bachelor’s degree at Manhattan School of Music with a major in jazz percussion and minor in classical composition. Soon after getting his formal education, he began touring the world and recording with musicians such as David Binney, Lee Konitz, Rudresh Mahantthapa, Miguel Zenon, Kenny Werner and many others. In addition to the drums, Weiss has been studying the tabla under his guru Pandit Samir Chatterjee for almost 20 years. This apprenticeship has been a major influence in his musical aesthetic, exemplified in two of his records where he performs classical Indian repertoire on drum set. Weiss was named ‘The Top Up and Coming Percussionist’ 2 years in a row in the 60th and 61st annual Downbeat’s Critic’s Poll and was featured in the New York Times as ‘One of the 5 Most Promising Drummers of the New Generation’. Dan Weiss Bio
